THE PROJECT
Marcel Breuer conceived the Wassily Chair in 1925 when he was director of the Bauhaus Institute: using the steel tubes of the Adler bicycle, he had it produced the following year by "Standard Möbel" of Berlin with the name "B3".
"By then, I had already entertained the idea of replacing the thick padding with a taut fabric sheet. I also wanted a flexible, elastic frame...it had to offer greater comfort without being bulky."
The tubular steel structures responded to the core idea of functionalism -Form must respect function - while simultaneously meeting the demands of mass production.
The armchair became a very successful product only in 1960 when Breuer proposed its production to "Gavina" : Wassily Kandinsky absolutely wanted the first example and that's how the "B3" took the name of the painter.

Wassily Chair, designed by Marcel Breuer, has chromium-plated steel tube frame (RAL lacquered on request) and seat, arms and back cowhide leather, in in 1st quality leather,full grain thick cowhide leather (click colours) or in white and brown, white and black or totally black pony leather or in écru canvas.
The Wassily chair outdoor version has a lacquered steel structure (also RAL lacquered) and a canvas seat, armrests and backrests.
The Wassily Chair outdoor version has lacquered steel structure (also Ral colours) and seat, armrests and backrests in canvas.
