"The Shakers", a religious society with different communities positioned between New York, New England and all of the Midwest, produces furniture characterized by the research for utility, economy and efficiency without sacrifying quality. The result appears in a clean and relatively bony style, if seen together with others. Even the simplest piece is moulded. The chairs are tapered and their knobs are carefully shaped, and the general proportions reflect an interest towards equilibrium, deeply-rooted in the aesthetic research as well as in utilitary requirements. The Shakers produce furniture using hard national timber available and pine wood.
